Airbus A380 & Glare
With Airbus and other companies, Stork Fokker is part of the aerospace partnership that has developed GlareŽ fibre/aluminium laminate.

After Stork Fokker received the green light in 2001 when Airbus placed the order for Glare to be used in the A380, the material was certified, the panels were designed, the production technology was developed and a 12,000 m2 factory was built in which Stork Fokker at Papendrecht, the Netherlands applies this technology on an industrial scale.

GlareŽ is an important element in the construction of the new airliner because it provides important weight savings in a construction that is subject to fatigue loading. By now, the glassfibre-reinforced material, which has been derived from metal-bonding technology previously developed by Stork Fokker and used in aerospace for more than 30 years, has achieved another succes: the leading edges of the A380 tail surfaces will also be made of Glare because of its excellent impact-resistant characteristics. |
