JSF design & development
In February 2003 Stork Fokker was engaged by Lockheed Martin, prime contractor on the US Government’s Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme, to design and produce electric-wiring harnesses for the affordable, next-generation weapon system’s 14 prototypes.
Along with other companies in the Netherlands, Stork Fokker had been invited to join integrated product teams being set up by Lockheed Martin and partners BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman.
| Three Fokker companies are co-ordinating their JSF activities within the Stork Aerospace parent group. More than 40 Dutch companies intend to become involved in JSF development and production.
Three JSF variants for the US Air Force, US Navy and US Marines are required to have 85% parts commonality and the concept of affordability requires the JSF to be kept up-to-date through continuous product and production improvement throughout the lifetime of the programme. Contracts, for which bidders in nine countries compete, are being awarded on the basis of “best-value”. |
