Ariane V engine frame

Stork Fokker manufactures spacecraft solar-array panels and space-launcher engine frames for Dutch Space, a leading and long-time supplier to the Space industry. Dutch Space expertise has been established through close involvement in the development and production of Ariane launch vehicles.

It also is a specialist in advanced robotics technology, being prime contractor for the 11-metre long, stand-alone European Robotic Arm. Solar arrays, used in programmes from telecommunications and science to Earth and observation applications, require stiff “strong-back” structures that involve the use of pre-preg materials, filament-winding techniques and RTM, with which Stork Fokker has long experience.

This expertise, together with other products of Stork Fokker’s continuous investment in composites-technologies research and development, can be applied to Space and aircraft programmes to provide clients with light, cost-efficient structures with short lead times.

The company’s experience with high-speed machining enables it to use the most-efficient techniques to manufacture or fabricate components and structures, interconnected with “Hi-lock” fasteners. Such products can be coated with outer layers of thermal protection. Stork Fokker’s clients enjoy flexible, co-operative partnerships that manage and monitor change cost-effectively to improve products and processes.
